Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. From the seabed to outer space, you can contribute to work that matters with a company where diversity, equity, and inclusion are shared values. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful, and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Boeing Global Services is currently seeking a highly motivated Associate Software Engineer to become part of the Training Systems - Battlespace Simulation Management team in Hazelwood, Missouri.

Are you ready to build the future? Build your career by helping us build the next generation of flight simulators to train our nation’s military pilots. Develop subsystems for Boeing Flight Trainers such as the Instructor/Operator Station, Brief/Debrief Station, Synthetic Environments, and core building block technologies used for all our flight trainers (graphics, video, networking, mission planning, exercise management & control).

BSM is responsible for the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance of training devices for a wide variety of commercial and military aircraft - everything from F-15 fighter jets to Apache attack helicopters, and even NASA's new Starliner spacecraft. Developers on our team are responsible for all phases of the software lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation, and test. They are also directly involved in planning their own work, as part of the agile methodology, with a focus on technical excellence.

The BSM team is a large software development team comprised of several smaller agile teams, some with specialized skills. Our backlog includes everything from new feature development using cutting-edge technology to maintenance of legacy software baselines. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in an often fast-paced environment within a two-week "sprint" schedule. Adaptability, the ability to work closely with others, and an open mind are essential attributes of team members. Experience in software development is required, and agile development experience is highly beneficial. A background in military aircraft, weapons, simulation, or training systems is desired.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists with development, documentation, and maintenance of architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems.
  • Develops and maintains code and integrates software components into a fully functional software system.
  • Assists with test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Participates in design and implementation peer reviews.
  • Selects, tailors, and deploys processes and tools; establishes metrics.
  • Promotes continuous improvement with ideas for process, tool, and automation improvements.
  • Performs software research and trade studies.
  • Plans and executes work within a scrum team using scaled agile practices.
  • Collaborates with agile teams to design, implement, and test new features and capabilities while delivering the desired business impact.
  • Troubleshoots software issues.
  • Works under general supervision.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future. Occasional travel (10%) may be required in support of the program and customer.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other technical degree.
  • Two or more years of experience in object-oriented programming.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with UX/UI designing using tools such as Qt.
  • Prior experience with object-oriented software architecture/design patterns.
  • Experience with Automated Software Testing.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies such as scrum or SAFe.
  • Familiarity with tools such as VersionOne, Jenkins, Git, ReviewBoard, CMake, Visual Studio.
  • Familiarity with simulation standards such as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), Distributed Mission Operations (DMO), High-Level Architecture (HLA), and Common Simulation Framework (CSF).
  • Experience with aircraft platforms, aviation, simulation, and training systems is beneficial.

Education/experience is typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry and typically two or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
