Responsibilities

  • Promote professionalism and maintain a cooperative working environment.
  • Obtain specimens following laboratory guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with care providers regarding patient data or laboratory samples.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in following protocols and directions.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure productivity and support coworkers.
  • Follow proper procedures for specimen packaging and transport.
  • Manage patient registration, lab test ordering, specimen processing, and distribution.
  • Practice proper infection control and patient identification procedures.
  • Perform drug screen collection and processing when assigned.
  • Handle laboratory department phone calls and coordinate phlebotomy services.
  • Monitor phlebotomy draw list and assign phlebotomists as needed.
  • Engage in courier duties and respond to emergent conditions appropriately.
  • Provide phlebotomy services professionally and with patient-centered care.
  • Participate in self-evaluation and continuous improvement of skills.
  • Ensure quality of care and promote service excellence in the laboratory.
  • Collaborate with various departments within the laboratory or health system.
  • Perform laboratory tests following protocols and assist in preparing equipment.
  • Support other laboratory personnel with assigned tasks and additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a phlebotomist within 2 years of hire date preferred.
  • Experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
